Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that contains a number of conveniences aside from the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
